How to Update Chrome Browser

Canvas works best when you use the latest version of the Chrome browser. These instructions can help you update your computer's Chrome browser to the latest version.

This issue is mostly for those who are using Chromebooks, but can be helpful for anyone using Chrome who might be having issues with their computers.

Indications you need to update the Chrome browser:

  • You get an error message when you log into Canvas saying your browser is not supported.
  • You log into a Zoom meeting and your camera doesn’t work.

Updating

The process to update is easy, but you may need to do this multiple times if your issues don’t go away.

Current supported versions of Chrome- 126 and 127. Check for the latest supported browser versions. If your version is lower than this, you most likely need to update. What version of Chrome do I have?

  1. Start by opening Google Chrome.
  2. Click the 3 dots to the left of your picture or initials.

  3. Click help.
  4. Choose About Google Chrome.

Your computer will search for updates. If you need an update, that update will be done and you will be asked to close and relaunch Chrome.

Important: be sure you have at least Version 126 of Chrome. If not, let the update happen again and relaunch again.
