Applying is only the first step in transferring to a 4-year university. There are several steps to complete to ensure a smooth transition to your 4-year university.

Application Steps

  1. Stay up to date with your email as universities will begin to email you instructions on creating a university student portal.

    • Note: You will need to create a portal for every university you applied to

  2. Login to your university portal(s) and complete the items under “Check list”.

    • Checklist items can include the following:

      • AD-T Verification: In the process of transferring to university, some universities will reach out to a student regarding their AD-T verification, the student can reach out to the Office of BC Records for verification of intent to earn an AD-T. Students can email to BCrecords@kccd.edu for confirmation. Please remember to email the Office of BC Records from your BC student email address.

      • Transcripts: If you are transferring to a university, you’ll need to request your official transcripts from Bakersfield College to be sent electronically to the University that you will be attending. You would need to create an account on Certree and follow the instructions to retrieve your transcript. You can directly share your official transcript via Certree with any third party.

      • Complete Transfer Academic Update: After applying to a four-year university, transfer students are required to update their grades and course records. Students must provide their final grades from the previous term and list all courses in progress (I.P.) or planned (PL) for all terms before you expect to enroll. Your updates will ensure the university campus has the most current academic information available. Even if you, as the student, do not have any in-progress or planned courses and your records of course grades were completed in your original application, you must log-in to your university application and complete the Transfer Academic Update.

      • Apply for Housing:  Students who are transferring out of Bakersfield are encouraged to apply for university housing once they have been admitted to the university. Remember that University Housing is not guaranteed. Do not make assumptions or rely on information from other students or campus offices. Refer to the University Housing frequently asked questions for the university you were admitted to. It is very important that you as the transfer student make sure you are meeting the University Housing application dates & deadlines. If you have any questions regarding housing, make sure you contact the University Housing department for assistance.

      • Orientation: New transfer student orientation is mandatory for admitted students who were admitted to a university. Orientation is a two-step process for all incoming students. The first step is an online orientation, which you would complete through your university student portal on your To-Do List. The second step is the campus rundown, where you will need to register online through your university student portal on your To-Do List as “New Student Orientation”.

  3. Attend a next step workshop

    • The BC Transfer department will be hosting Next Step Workshops. Please visit our Transfer Events page for more details.

    • Each university you apply to will also be hosting workshops. Check the university website for dates and locations.
