College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a means through which academic credit may be given for non-traditional forms of educational experience, also known as credit by exam. Those who may have reached a college level of education through home or correspondence study, on-the-job training, television courses, military service, or other means may take the CLEP examinations which are offered by the College Entrance Examination Board. The list of subjects for which credit may be obtained by taking the CLEP is listed in the Bakersfield College Catalog.
During regular testing operations, the CLEP exams are available on Tuesday and Thursday. Candidates need to make an appointment at least 24 hours prior to the test date. Available testing sessions include: Available testing sessions include: 8:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and 2:30 PM. Examinees must submit the completed BC CLEP registration form and a $25 test administration fee (non-refundable) and paid to Bakersfield College.
CLEP Exam Steps
Step 1: Learn the CLEP Credit Policy Applicability
Candidates should review the CLEP credit policy for their college/university. We recommend that all candidates consult with their counselor/advisor before registering for a CLEP exam.
Step 2: Request a testing appointment
Three business days before the requested test date, candidates need to complete:
- Bakersfield College CLEP Registration form (pdf) and email it to bc_proctor@bakersfieldcollege.edu
- Pay the test administration fee ($25) to Bakersfield College
*Test administration fee is non-refundable
Step 3: Test Registration
- Candidates must check test availability with the Testing Center(TC).
- Sign in or create an account at CollegeBoard
- Navigate to "My CLEP Account"/Register with CollegeBoard
- Pay CollegeBoard the CLEP test fee ($93).
- CLEP testing is free for eligible military service members, spouses, and civilian employees. For more info see "Who is Eligible for DANTES-Funded CLEP Exams?"
- Save the ticket information and provide it on the day of the exam. The examinee must bring a valid government-issued ID with signature and picture to the test center to take a test. The names on your picture ID must match exactly the names listed on your registration ticket. Registrations are valid for six months. Please contact the College Board should you need to request an extension.

Step 4: Request for Evaluation (transfers)
To transfer CLEP exam credits to Bakersfield College, candidates need to complete and submit the Request for Evaluation form to BC's Admission and Records office at bcrecords@kccd.edu.
Note: Bakersfield College does not allow credit for English and Literature exams.
