Bilingual Testing

Bakersfield College administers bilingual English/Spanish exams and issues certificates verifying bilingual proficiency in verbal, reading and writing.

Bilingual Exams

• Tier I - Conversational; one-on-one Oral/Reading exam with the instructor, approx. 15-20 minutes. This exam is a conversation between you and the instructor.  There will be a paragraph that you will read and translate. $59 (Credit Card ONLY, NO REFUND) PAYMENT REQUIRED.
• Tier II - Reading/Writing exam, 90 Minutes Note: Applicant must present copy of Tier I Certificate. This exam will be multiple choice, fill-in and translation from Spanish to English, English to Spanish and Spanish response in Spanish.  You will need to know punctuation and accent marks.  (In order to take the Tier II separately is if you already have the Tier I certificate.) $59 (Credit Card ONLY, NO REFUND) PAYMENT REQUIRED.
• Tier I and II - Conversational and Reading/Writing exam  Approx. 2 hours total. $79 (Credit Card ONLY, NO REFUND) PAYMENT REQUIRED.

In order to be considered for bilingual positions, the individual must demonstrate proficiency in English/Spanish.

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a means through which academic credit may be given for nontraditional forms of educational experience, also known as credit by exam. For more information visit the testing center website.

Valid photo ID required; Cell phone or pagers must be turned off during testing.  Must be prompt - Late comers will not be tested.

TESTS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY - PAYMENT IS REQUIRED TO TAKE EXAM.

A minimum number of clients are required for testing to occur.

If you pass the Bilingual exams - Tier I, Verbal, Certificate will be provided at the time of the exam; Tier II, Written, Certificate will be mailed after it is scored, approximately two week to address provided on exam.
