History of the BCXR Space
The first 3D Printer at an educational institution in the valley was a Dimension 1200 purchased by the Industrial Technology department of Bakersfield College in 2006. It was an industrial grade piece of equipment that hundreds of students learned how to use in their INDR classes and is still running strong today. A laser-cutting system was added in 2010, and two upgraded 3D printers (Fortus and Objet) were added in 2015. Today, we are expanding the tools available to students and faculty by adding even more advanced fabrication technology. New equipment, including 3D printers, CNC machine, upgraded laser cutter, and visualization technologies now complements our existing resources. These tools provide hands-on experience in modern manufacturing processes, allowing students to learn skills that are directly applicable in today’s tech-driven industries. Through these advancements, Bakersfield College continues to support a learning environment that keeps pace with industry standards and prepares students for careers in engineering, design, and advanced manufacturing.
