Escorts & Courtesy Carts

Providing safety escorts and the courtesy cart service are a couple of ways that Bakersfield College is committed to a safe and welcoming campus environment.

Safety Escorts

Bakersfield College serves more than 40,000 students at several campus locations. While navigating our campuses, it's important to be aware of your surroundings at all times. We encourage you to walk in pairs and groups when possible, especially at night.

To strengthen our resources, College Safety provides safety escorts for our campus community. To request a safety escort, call (661) 395-4554, anytime, day or night.

Report any suspicious activity to College Safety, as soon as possible. Trust your instincts and if you feel uneasy about any situation, please get to a safe place and call for help. Remember: If you See Something, Say Something, so we can Do Something.

Courtesy Cart Service

The Courtesy Cart Service provides campus transportation primarily to students with mobility disabilities. Students should arrange for access to this service through Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSPS). Verified users receive a designation on their DSPS card. This card should be presented to Courtesy Cart operators at the time of service.

The Courtesy Cart service is typically available during normal business hours. Students can request a pick-up by calling College Safety (661) 395-4554. Students will be asked to provide their name, verification of their DSPS Courtesy Cart access, a callback number, and their pick-up and drop-off locations. Although the Courtesy Cart service is a timely operation, pick-up/drop-off times cannot be guaranteed. It is the student's responsibility to plan and allow adequate travel time to get to classes.

Cart Training

Bakersfield College staff and students must complete annual Powered Cart & Low Speed Vehicle Safety training to operate any cart on Bakersfield College campuses. Training must be renewed each fiscal year. Before starting this training, please review the Bakersfield College Parking Rules & Regulations, especially the Other Parking Rules & Regulations section.

Although the training may indicate different speed limits, the speed limits on Bakersfield College campuses are 15 MPH for roads and 5 MPH for all sidewalks. Remember: Pedestrians have the right of way on any part of Bakersfield College campuses.

Immediately report any accident, safety incidents, emergencies, etc. to College Safety at (661) 395-4554 or 911.
