Bakersfield College Kern Promise

Kern Promise is a commitment between transfer students and Bakersfield College to help students complete their Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) within two years as long as transfer students meet all program requirements. Kern Promise students get several perks to help them achieve their transfer goals. As a Kern Promise student, you will be eligible for priority registration, a $250 book scholarship per semester, and paid tuition.

Kern Promise Programs

Finish-in-4

 

The Finish-in-4 program guarantees transfer students admission to CSU Bakersfield as long as students meet the program requirements. The program generally consists of two years of ADT program coursework at BC and the remaining two years at CSU Bakersfield to earn a bachelor's degree.

Transfer-in-2

 

The Transfer-in-2 program guarantees transfer students will transfer within two years as long as students meet the program requirements.

Note: Students who earn an ADT, often called A Degree with a Guarantee, are guaranteed priority admissions to a CSU campus, though not necessarily to a particular campus or major.

Requirements

Being part of Kern Promise is an important commitment. Transfer students must meet the following requirements to maintain their commitment. Students who do not meet or maintain the requirements for the program will be disqualified.

  • Be a first-time college student attending BC (dual or concurrent enrollment does not count)
  • Attend Bridge to BC (ACDV B55) before first semester of attendance
  • Must be pursuing an ADT degree
  • California Resident or AB540 eligible
  • Enroll in at least 12 units per semester
  • Complete 30 units per school year
  • Complete transfer level Math and English within the first year
  • Cumulative BC GPA of 2.0 or above AND pass all classes with a “C” or higher
  • Submit FAFSA or CA Dream Act every year

Application/Interest Form

Transfer Students will have ONE opportunity to become a Kern Promise program student. Only incoming students and those who are first-time college students at Bakersfield College are eligible to apply for Kern Promise. If you have taken dual and/or concurrent enrollment courses in high school, you are still eligible to apply.

The interest form for the Fall 2024 cohort will open March 1st, 2024 and close August 1st, 2024.
