Title IX Resources

Sample Syllabus Statement

The following is a statement that can be add to a faculty syllabus to help educate students and provide information to students regarding Title IX and other sexual misconduct situations:

Bakersfield College is committed to fostering a safe, productive learning environment. Title IX and the Standards of Student Conduct prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, which regards sexual misconduct — including harassment, domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. BC understands that sexual violence can undermine students' academic success and encourages students who have experienced some form of sexual misconduct to talk to someone about their experience, so they can get the support they need. If you or someone you know has been harassed or assaulted, you can find the appropriate resources, both on and off campus, at bakersfieldcollege.edu/campus-life/student-conduct/title-ix.

As a faculty member, I am obligated to report incidents of sexual misconduct and thus cannot guarantee confidentiality — this is for your safety and to get you the help you may need. I must provide the Human Resources Manager and/or the Director of Student Life with relevant details such as the names of those involved in the incident if I know them. You may seek community resources from the Alliance Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault ((661)322-0931). Please know that you can also seek on-campus confidential resources at Student Health and Wellness Center ((661)395-4336). If you want to make a formal report, you can contact Human Resources ((661)395-4850), the Office of Student Life ((661)395-4164), or with the Department of College Safety ((661)395-4554). You can also make a police report to the Bakersfield Police Department ((661)327-7111).
