Canvas Workshops - WC Help Available 24/7

Did you know you can access Writing Center workshops on your own time through Canvas? Each workshop is about an hour long and each one is designed to help you strengthen your abilities in specific writing skills from getting started with an assignment, writing a thesis, to adding quotes from sources, and formatting in MLA, APA and CMS.

All you need to do to access the workshops is fill out the Workshop Request Template once per semester and email from your BC EMAIL ADDRESS ONLY to writingcenter@bakersfieldcollege.edu. Please use the subject title "Workshop Request." Our team adds students to Canvas Monday through Thursday throughout the semester.

Need proof of attendance after completing a workshop? No problem! At the end of each workshop you complete, the last page of the module generates a certificate of completion you can download and submit to your instructor if they either require a Writing Center workshop as homework or offer them as extra credit. Congratulation on going the extra mile to be successful in your course!

How the Writing Center Can Help

The Writing Center, located in Humanities 51-52, provides Bakersfield College students with free help for any writing assignment. Our degreed, professional writing consultants will help you with:

  • Pre-Writing
  • Planning and organizing
  • Drafting
  • Revising and Editing
  • English for Multi-Lingual Students (EMLS)
  • Resumes
  • Scholarship Letters
  • Personal Statements
  • Assignment Clarification
  • MLA, APA, ASA, Chicago Style, etc.

Students can also take advantage of computer access, quiet study areas and our printing station.

The center takes appointments, but consultants can also assist walk-in students on a first-come, first-serve basis. For a successful 30-minute consultation, students are encouraged to bring assignment sheets, hard-copy notes and drafts, and any other needed material, and should be prepared to discuss assignments with consultant.
