Recently, Bakersfield College hosted Spring 2025 Sports Media Day which brought together BC athletes, coaches, and key figures for an exciting event where fans and media had the opportunity to get a first look at the upcoming athletic season through interviews, insights, and a glimpse behind the scenes. The event took place in the Renegade Events Center on BC’s Panorama Campus.
Sports Media Day gave attendees a unique opportunity to engage with our student-athletes and seasoned coaches through exclusive interviews, in-depth discussions, and spirited introductions. Some of the sports that highlighted were Women’s Beach Volleyball, Golf, both Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Women’s Wrestling, Track and Field, Softball, and Baseball.
For many of these student-athletes, Media Day marks their first real introduction to the public eye, offering them a platform to showcase their talent, character, and commitment. Their involvement in the event serves as a reminder that, beyond their athletic abilities, these students are also scholars, leaders, and role models. Several BC athletes participated in the event which gave them a platform to share their stories, goals, and motivations for their upcoming seasons. The event gives these athletes a fantastic opportunity to make a connection with the local community while gaining exposure in Kern County and beyond.
Robert Chavez, a BC sportscaster who covers many of the college’s athletic events, was MC for the event. “I can remember when I was an athlete here, and you got your name in the newspaper, or some sort of press release,” he said, “It’s exposure, but on top of that, it gets [the students] to feel as though they are a part of something greater.”
Bakersfield College and its Athletics Department are excited about the upcoming sports season, and we look forward to the success of our student-athletes both on and off the field. Please visit the Go Gades website for upcoming schedules for all Renegade sporting events. GO Gades!
