Bakersfield College’s Performing Arts Department has announced details for a special concert presented by students and musicians in the Afrocuban Folkloric Percussion summer class. The concert will present traditional Afrocuban music telling the stories of Yoruba folklore. This unique opportunity will take place Sunday, August 4 at 2:00 PM in the Edward Simonsen Indoor Theatre. Admission is free and open to the public.

The trickster. The mother. The warrior and the hunter. The stories of Afrocuban folklore, sustained by the Yoruba people throughout the African diaspora, come to beautiful life in a concert like no other. Ten percussionists and vocalists from our summer Afrocuban Percussion class will present an afternoon of songs celebrating this rich tradition. Join the community in uplifting and honoring the unique music of Afrocuban culture in this first-of-hopefully-many concert!

Admission to the concert is free and open to the public. No advance reservation is necessary. Those attending will need to purchase a $5 parking pass, which can be purchased online or on campus.
