The BC Performing Arts department features a myriad of talented musicians, and they recently had the opportunity to showcase their skills! The Bakersfield College Jazz Studies program traveled to Fresno on December 5 for the annual Fresno State Jazz Festival, an event they have participated in for several years.

This year, BC Jazz Combo A performed a set of original compositions by students Lavonte Taylor, Matt Ellis, and Shane Diaz. The combo received unanimous superior ratings for the fourth year in a row! Following the performance, they participated in a great clinic with two well-known artist-educators: trumpeter Shane Endsley and drummer Mark Ferber. A highlight of the festival was when Shane Diaz, BC student and trombonist, was awarded the Outstanding Community College Musician Scholarship to Fresno State! Congratulations Shane!

Bakersfield College Jazz Studies travels to various festivals throughout the year, and they always represent the department and BC well when they compete and perform. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Fresno State Jazz Festival. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, and incredible accomplishments – we are proud to call you Renegades! Please join us in raising a hand for these bright young student musicians!
