The Bakersfield College Wylie and May Louise Jones Gallery is proud to present an exhibition celebrating the work of Yumiko Glover that will be on view from November 12th to December 5th, 2024. The exhibition features eight large-scale paintings by the artist, known for their vibrant use of abstract forms and exploration of Japanese history, technology, and contemporary culture, inviting viewers into a cross-cultural dialogue.
For this enthralling exhibition, the Jones Art Gallery took a minimalist approach, presenting a room devoid of any walls or partitions. This creative decision allows students to roam freely within the gallery, absorbing each composition and its significance. The serene ambiance of the gallery is enhanced by the peaceful music echoing throughout its walls, inviting passing students, faculty, and staff to peruse the beautiful collection of artworks in an atmosphere of quiet contemplation and creative inspiration.
This month’s exhibition presents a diverse array of large-scale paintings, created by the artist Yumiko Glover with acrylic and oil on canvas. Her combination of geometric and organic forms within each composition creates a harmonious sense of rhythm and balance, providing a seamless flow to each subject that is both visually pleasing and calming for viewers. The central figures in her paintings are often depicted alongside symbolic objects and shapes that are relevant to Japanese contemporary culture and history, creating a captivating narrative.
The exhibition will be open for display through December 5th, 2024. Please visit the Jones Art Gallery website for specific dates and hours.
