Bakersfield College recently wrapped up our Welcome Week with a bang, culminating with the Student Involvement Festival on Thursday, September 5, at the Renegade Crossroads. We were thrilled to see over three hundred students actively participating and connecting with peers across campus!
This annual event not only provides an invaluable opportunity for students to explore BC’s diverse programs and services, but it also fosters a sense of community. The festival offers the chance to connect with peers, become familiar with our campus, and establish relationships. Every year, it sparks student engagement with members of Bakersfield College and the greater Bakersfield community!
Yadira Melgoza, BC student and cheerleader, shared her perspective on the event: “It’s important for the incoming freshman to see what BC has to offer around campus.” Alexandra Lopez, another student, echoed this sentiment, “It’s important to be included in the school and participate to build relationships and community.”
The event presented a diverse array of booths winding throughout the Renegade Crossroads, featuring program and club representatives, local businesses, and community organizations. The festival was a vibrant hub of activity with a constant stream of spirited discussions throughout the day. The participating vendors included Bakersfield College Student Life, the Student Government Association, Veteran Services, the Child Development Center, the Rodeo Team, Kern County Probation, Research Laboratory Technology, and many more.
Johana Solis, one of the representatives for the Native American Student Support and Services Program (NASSSP), shared that she had interacted with “at least a hundred students,” all of whom expressed their eagerness to become involved.
The Student Involvement Festival creates an exciting atmosphere that engages students and makes it easier for students to get involved in the BC community. Thank you to all participating vendors and BC departments that made this year's festival a remarkable success.
