Rising Scholars Program Hosts 'Second Chance Month' Events

The Rising Scholars Program at Bakersfield College is excited to present Second Chance Month! The purpose of Second Chance Month is to support Rising Scholar students by providing them with tools and resources to help them succeed in their academic journey. The program will be hosting a series of events and activities throughout the month of April such as an open house, clothing drives, fundraisers, a resource fair, and even a documentary showing.

The Open House and Resource Fair will provide more than a dozen student services necessary for academic and personal success. These events are specifically designed to support individuals who seek a fresh start and a brighter future through education, personal growth, employment, community outreach, and social interaction.

There will be several opportunities all month long to actively engage our community and create meaningful interactions, including the clothing drive and the film screening. The clothing drive will be accepting donations every Tuesday of this month near the Bakersfield College Welcome Center Building. The film screening took place earlier this week, featuring a documentary titled, ‘Poverty and Power,’ which detailed an empowering story about people in poverty becoming a strong voice in their community.

The Rising Scholars Program is an inspiring educational initiative dedicated to transforming the lives of those who have been affected by the criminal justice system. The program strives to create a safe and welcoming environment by providing opportunities encouraging growth and change through higher education for those who desire a successful reentry into society.
