Thursday, February 22, 2024
The A2MEND program at Bakersfield College hosted a special event this week in the Renegade Event Center titled “Empowering Unity: Building Stronger Alliances for Black Communities.” It is one of several events being hosted at BC in celebration of Black History Month.
The gathering featured guest speaker A.J. Mada, who serves as the Equity Coaching Academy Director at the USC Race and Equity Center. Mada collaborates with various sectors, including businesses, nonprofits, higher education, and government agencies, providing expertise in curriculum development, strategy advising, and DEI training.
During his speech, Mada explored several topics, such as strategies for building alliances, the role of technology and social media in fostering connections within Black communities, and the importance of education and awareness in promoting understanding and empathy across ethnic backgrounds.
The event aimed to enlighten both Bakersfield College and the wider community on how they can collectively work together to create and maintain a thriving Black community. Attendees were also invited to share dinner with A.J. Mada before his presentation.
We invite you to visit the BC Online Calendar of Events to view upcoming events celebrating Black History Month.
