Bakersfield College Archives Celebrates 20th Anniversary

"Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future"
The Bakersfield College Archives is excited to announce its 20th Anniversary celebration, marking two decades of preserving the rich history and cherished memories of Bakersfield College (BC). Since its inception in 2003, the Bakersfield College Archives has been dedicated to safeguarding the legacy of BC and fostering a sense of belonging within the BC community.
The anniversary celebrations will be a year-long affair, starting now. BC invites everyone to partake in this special milestone by visiting their newly revamped website where visitors can sign up for the semi- annual newsletter, explore past student newspapers, yearbooks, and other invaluable memorabilia.
The Archives team is also extending an invitation to actively contribute to this community-wide historical repository. BC’s Archives Faculty Director, Bethany Rice, says that pretty much everyone in Bakersfield has a connection to BC. “Whether it’s your children, extended family, neighbors, or co-workers, we all know someone who has been positively influenced by experiences at Bakersfield College. This Anniversary celebration is a great way to give back and help keep our history preserved at the Home of the Renegades,” she said.
The BC Archives team is readily available to assist any individuals who are curious to learn more about BC’s history. Whether it's about the original BC logo or discovering if your grandparent attended the institution, individuals are encouraged to connect by visiting the office, email, or submit a request online for assistance.
Individuals are also encouraged to share their remarkable stories, unique artifacts, or extend their support to further the mission of preserving the BC legacy. Contributions and inquiries can be directed to bcarchives@bakersfieldcollege.edu, made in person at the Archives office, or submitted via the donation form available on the website.
As part of the anniversary festivities, Bakersfield College Archives invites the public to join them at Renegade Promenade on October 21st, 2023. Attendees will have the exciting opportunity to view a curated collection of artifacts, including football programs from years past, old yearbooks, and Renegade Rips dating back to the 1970s.
"The Bakersfield College Family is Forever...Past, Present, & Future!" This slogan encapsulates the spirit of the Archives and its commitment to preserving the legacy and fostering a sense of unity and belonging within the BC community.
