About Rick

Rick Range grew up immersed in Southern California’s vibrant car culture. As a teen, he gained experience at Toyota Racing Development (TRD) and HKS and deepened his knowledge of modern high-performance technology at RC Engineering.

Since 1986, Mr. Range has built a career in the automotive industry, starting in parts sales for a nationwide chain and gradually transitioning into service roles. His early experience working in independent shops and gas stations provided foundational service skills. In 1996, he joined Pep Boys as a technician, where he received further training and advancement opportunities. By 2010, he was promoted to Technical Trainer, a role that allowed him to share his knowledge and expertise with technicians across the United States. He took pride in training both entry-level and experienced technicians. Part of his responsibilities included managing a technical hotline, which introduced him to the unique challenge of diagnosing and resolving vehicle issues remotely.

In 2019, Mr. Range began teaching at Bakersfield College, where he helps students enter the automotive industry and guides them toward their career goals.

He holds an Associate of Science degree in Automotive Technology, California State Smog Inspector and Repair licenses, and is ASE Master Certified in six areas, including advanced levels L1, L2, L3 and L4. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at Weber State University.

I enjoy spending time with my family and working on my project vehicles outside of campus. There’s nothing like riding my motorcycle to Yosemite or Sequoia to clear my mind. In addition to our blended family of four adult children, my wife and I welcomed a little one, and she is keeping us young and on our toes. Welcome to Bakersfield College Automotive Technology; I look forward to meeting you soon.
