Fred Rue Jacobs
Former Head, Reference Services
1934 -1999
Fred Rue Jacobs had more than 30 years experience as a librarian, much of it at
Bakersfield College. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, he held a bachelor's degree
from the University of California, Berkeley, a master's degree in political science from
California State University, Fullerton, and a master's in library science from the
University of Southern California. He was a scholar in the most eclectic sense and was
internationally known as an expert on Ted Hughes, former poet laureate of England. We miss
his wide-ranging knowledge and his wonderful laugh.
