Centennial
Logo Competition
To start the Centennial Celebration, Bakersfield College announced a logo competition to the community. More than 60 entries were received, with just one winning the $1,000 prize.
We congratulate Keith Brandon, 2005 Bakersfield College graduate, for his winning entry. The logo he developed will be Bakersfield College's official logo for the entire Centennial year.
Keith described his design process for the logo:
"The...ultimately winning logo, took a bolder,
modern approach. I typeset in a simple, clean sans-serif font (Avenir
Next LT Pro Regular & Bold). I mimicked the current BC logo by adding a
red bar below the title. To this I added a point, hinting at a shield or
half-chevron, in reflection of the school's medieval mascot. I further
displayed this motif by adding a flag and spiked finial to the "1" in
"100." The prominent "100" is treated like a mask, selectively cropping
in or out the silhouette of a knight on horseback. Lastly, I added the
phrase "Centennial Celebration" in reverse type, employing a technique
called negative space. The end result is a contemporary logo that I, as
a BC alum, am honored will promote the college's centennial!
