Emergency Medical Technician I - 4
Course is designed to certify students as California State Emergency Medical Technicians and gain employment as a Firefighter, ambulance driver, ambulance attendant, or law enforcement officer. After successful completion of this course, students will be authorized to take the Kern County EMS, California State Fire Marshal and/or the National Registry EMT examinations. Topics discussed include pre-hospital care terminology, cardiovascular emergencies, pre-hospital childbirth, communicable disease, extrication tools and equipment, automatic external defibrillation and an understanding of the Emergency Medical System. Course content is based on the guidelines and authority of Title 22, Division 9 of the California Code of Regulations, as well as the U.S. Department of Transportation Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Standard National Curriculum, National Registry EMT Examinations. Students must be 18 years of age and have a current CPR card (Title 22, Division 9 of the California Code of Regulations). Students are responsible for paying any certification fees. Recommended: FIRE B1. Hours: 68 lect, 72 lab.Field trips required. Offered: F, S, Ss. CCS: Occupational Education. Not Transferable: Associate Degree only
