Administrative Office Assistant
The Administrative Office concentrations are programs designed to equip students with the skills and competencies needed to be an efficient, productive member of an office support team. Students will complete courses designed to help them learn to analyze and coordinate office duties and systems, develop proficiency in the use of integrated software, and improve oral and written communication. Emphasis is placed on non-technical as well as technical skills. Students will have the option of completing a certificate and/or a two-year degree.

Bookkeeping
The Bookkeeping curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and the skills necessary for employment and growth in the accounting profession. Using the “language of business,” accountants assemble and analyze, process and communicate essential information about financial operations.

Business Administration
The desire of this department is to promote and enhance the economic development of the community; to provide for lifelong learning and academic excellence through course content, application, and technology; to serve diverse populations with a sense of worth and dignity; to establish work ethics relative to a positive work environment; to meet workforce needs in the workplace through skills development, training, and personal growth; to be quality driven; and to communicate a sense of vision and renewal through a creative utilization of productive and innovative resources.

California Real Estate
The Real Estate courses offered are recognized by the State of California and accepted as prerequisites for the students to sit for their licensing examinations. These courses are also available for continuing education credits. Upon completion of these courses, the students will have the knowledge to allow them to comply with real estate practice standards imposed by the Real Estate License Law and Commission rules for the State of California.

General Management
The management curriculum is designed to provide the student with the skills necessary for success as a manager in today’s demanding organizational climate. The program is of benefit to the man or woman who aspires to a first-level or higher management position in any organization, including, business, government, or service organizations.

General Sales
The purpose of this career program is to provide basic knowledge and skills necessary for success in the field of sales. This program is designed for students to begin careers in sales either retail or outside sales positions.

Marketing
The Marketing Program provides students with knowledge, techniques and perspectives relating to the theory and practice of marketing, business, and public organizations. Specialized courses in marketing, sales, advertising, and related business disciplines enable students to think critically, creatively, and strategically, from an ethical perspective, when promoting their organizations in today’s globally integrated economy. BC’s Marketing Program helps students to develop a strong understanding of the techniques used in successful business marketing. That training starts with a strong emphasis on the relationship between theory and practice in contemporary marketplaces. The curriculum includes specialized courses in marketing, sales and advertising. It also provides students with the ability to think critically and creatively - as well as ethically - in today’s growing global economy.

Retail Management
The Western Association of Food Chains is pleased to announce the new WAFC Retail Management Certificate Program, a 10-course college-level program that has been fully endorsed by the Western Association of Food Chains and its member companies. The certificate’s curriculum was developed out of a collaborative effort between several food industry and college professionals and encompasses several business essentials, including the “soft skills” of management and communication required for career success in the retail food industry.

Computer Programming
Programming is a very challenging and interesting profession for anyone who enjoys figuring out solutions to complex problems. Bakersfield College’s Computer Studies Department offers three degree and transfer programs in the area of computer programming: AA in Computer Information Systems, AS in Computer Information Systems and AS in Computer Science.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer-based tool for mapping and analyzing things that exist and events that happen on earth. GIS technology is one of the fastest growing computer fields worldwide, finding its way into nearly every walk of life and using geography as a basis to analyze and display information. GIS technology integrates common database operations such as query as statistical analysis with the unique visualization and geographic analysis benefits offered by maps. Networking
Our computer networking and technical courses will help you get a great job in the ever-changing LAN, WAN and computer technical support sectors. You’ll find courses in designing, installing, administering and troubleshooting small to large networks, as well as courses on building and repairing computers. All students should have instruction in microcomputer applications so that they will be successful in using the software in personal and business situations. Web Development
The Computer Studies Department at Bakersfield College offers a wide range of Web Development courses, as well as Associates in Science degree in Web Development. Web Development is one of the fastest growing professions in computing and technology. Our web development courses include introductory courses in HTML and web design, as well as courses in database-driven web sites, dynamic HTML, and other dynamic web site technologies.
