The Oxfam America Hunger Banquet raises awareness about the issue of hunger in our community through an eye-opening, interactive experience. The banquet will be held at 6 p.m. on March 8 in Bakersfield College’s John Collins Campus Center. Before entering the John Collins Campus Center at Bakersfield College, guests will randomly draw tickets which assign them an income level. Each ticket represents the latest statistics regarding the number of people living in poverty. Guests are then seated based on income level, and depending on where they are placed, guests will either have a satisfying dinner, a humble meal, or a few meager servings of food. To attend the Oxfam America Hunger Banquet, RSVP by February 27 to sgapres@bakersfieldcollege.edu or 661-395-4051. Banquet is free. If you cannot attend and would like to support the Bakersfield College Student Government Association’s effort to fight poverty among students, you can make donations to the Bakersfield College Renegade Pantry by visiting my.oxfamamerica.org/bcrenegadepantry.
